“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”

More than two years ago the Holy Apostles mission was formed to continue the work of the Holy Orthodox Church.  We believed that it was our responsibility to fulfill the Great Commission of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  In many respects we have made great strides in this aim in a very short time.  In just over two years we have incorporated as a church, constructed and outfitted a temporary worship space, been assigned a fulltime priest, and have held services on a regular basis.  We have seen our numbers grow from a mere handful of people to regular Divine Liturgy attendance of forty or more while also providing charitable assistance to humanitarian organizations in the Tulsa area.  Our level of success for a mission parish in such a short period of time cannot be understated.  Through the prayers and guidance of His Eminence Archbishop DMITRI, and by God’s grace, we have truly been blessed.

Now we take the next steps necessary to fulfill our common goal.  This goal, the establishment of a vibrant Orthodox parish in South Tulsa, will enable us to preach the fullness of the Christian Faith to those in South Tulsa, Glenpool, Jenks, Bixby, and all the surrounding areas.  So it is with great joy that we undertake the next phase of our building program.

Land Acquisition

As was our original goal, our mission purchased land in the southeast Tulsa County after an extensive and exhaustive search.  The property purchased is located at 15700 South Peoria Avenue.  We believe this area will best meet our growth objectives as well as providing accessibility for current mission members.

The land, purchased in November 2004, will be able to contain the following:

  • Traditional Orthodox Temple
  • Permanent Chapel
  • Multipurpose Facility
  • Adequate parking

The land will also accommodate future plans for a cemetery and parsonage.  The multipurpose facility will include classrooms, offices, restrooms, and congregational space.  The temple will be of traditional Orthodox Christian design.  The chapel will be a rustic Russian country design with a capacity of up to 100 people.  It is also envisioned that the land will be developed to include icon marked pathways, flower beds, prayer settings, picnic and recreational areas and a future retreat center.  The land was purchased for $88,000 and is 7.8 acres in size.

The Chapel
The design concept for the construction of our traditional Orthodox chapel is as follows:

  • A traditional Orthodox chapel in rustic Russian country design constructed of all wood.
  • Approximately 25 X 40 feet (1275 square feet) to accommodate up to 100 people.
    Interior to be authentically Orthodox.
  • The chapel is to be located near the multipurpose facility with walkways linking the two facilities and the future temple.

Holy Apostles currently has outstanding debt for the purchase of the land in the amount of $78,000. It is estimated that current facility development costs will be $232,700 creating a total of $310,700 needed to pay the outstanding balance on the land and facility completion. We still need to raise approximately $77,000 over the next few months in order to complete the construction of our chapel.

Clearly this first step in our building plans is critical to reaching that aim and the goal of sharing our faith and the unwavering Truth of Jesus Christ with our community.

Future Plans - An Orthodox Temple

As has been our intention for sometime, we will proceed with construction of a traditional Orthodox temple within three to five years of completion of our current building plans.

The goal of our Christian life is to be united with God, Who has created us, redeemed us, and Who continues to sanctify us day after day.  Our Christian lives reveal to those around us what God is like.  We build Christian churches for the same reason – to show the world Who God is, and how we ought to worship Him.  A traditional Orthodox Church calls people out of the world, and into the presence of God.  This communion with God is what the world is thirsting for – people are looking for spiritual fulfillment.  Building an Orthodox Church is an evangelistic endeavor.  The building itself proclaims to the world that fulfillment is found here, in the Church of Jesus Christ.

How You Can Help

As stated above, the goal of our Christian life is to be united with God. We must proclaim to the world that this is the will of God for all mankind, and we make this proclamation by everything we do. We embark on this work, and future works, with the intent of fulfilling our obligation as Orthodox Christians to make known the eternal Truth of our faith while praying to provide a place where people can truly find the presence of God.

While we strive for this goal with great commitment, it requires the treasure of our earthly life to see these goals fulfilled. We humbly ask for your financial support in this most worthwhile endeavor and that you may consider returning a donation. Simply print out this donation card, and mail it to:

“With men it is impossible, but not with God, for with God all things are possible.”
